About Us

FONTENEAU & CO. is a custom cabinetry and architectural woodwork company based in Fredericksburg, Virginia. We work with homeowners, designers, architects, builders, and businesses on residential and commercial projects, with an emphasis on thoughtful design, craftsmanship, functionality, and lasting quality.

FONTENEAU & CO. is led by founder Mickael Fonteneau, who developed an interest in woodworking at a young age while spending time in his father’s home workshop in France. He later trained with the French guild Les Compagnons du Devoir, where he developed traditional skills in cabinetmaking, furniture making, marquetry, French polishing, architectural woodwork, traditional construction techniques, and historic restoration. He completed his training as a Maitre Artisan Ebeniste, or master cabinetmaker, and later managed projects for French firms including Rinck before establishing his own workshop in Virginia.

With more than 30 years of experience in woodworking and cabinetmaking, Mickael brings this foundation in traditional French craftsmanship to the way FONTENEAU & CO. approaches its work today. Our cabinetry and millwork are designed and fabricated in our Fredericksburg workshop, where Mickael works alongside skilled craftspeople, combining time-honored techniques with modern fabrication methods and careful attention to detail.

Our work ranges from custom residential cabinetry and built-ins to commercial millwork and highly specialized woodworking. We collaborate closely with clients and design professionals to develop work tailored to the architectural, functional, and aesthetic requirements of each project.
